The external rewards from work:
– Promotions
– Titles
– Status
– Money
– Project Completion
– Etc., etc., etc.
Are all great things.
But, I imagine, we’ve all experienced the hollow, fleeting feeling that accompanies these externalities.
Once we get the reward, it doesn’t feel quite as satisfying as we assumed it would be.
When awareness shifts to the internalities (should be a word if its opposite is), we realize (and enjoy)…
The work itself is the reward.
The process.
The doing.
The camaraderie.
The challenge.
The lost in the moment adventure.
The journey.
Whether or not the external world heaps us with golden tokens and attakids, the work itself is the reward.
Time to get after it.
