Inspiration is an illusion.
External bursts of motivation, insight, and inspiration feel like progress. Much like walking into Dick’s and seeing rows of athletic gear makes you feel like you’re working out.
It’s not that those moments are bad, they’re just insufficient and illusory.
The real (and lasting) reward comes, not from the dopamine hit, but from the intrinsic instincts to take one tiny step forward.
Hard and uncertain as it might be.
