Gone are the days of people sticking around for a paycheck and a pension.
Today, people don’t want to:
- Work with assholes
- Work for assholes
- Be told they’re bad
- Be shamed
- Be lied to
- Be manipulated
- Be devalued
- Be stripped of their dignity
- Told (verbally or otherwise) that their voice doesn’t matter
- Do purposeless work
- Be a cog in the machine
- Have no say or clarity in their journey with your company
- Be told when and where to be all the time
It does, seem, however that many would like to:
- Be known
- Speak up
- Be coached
- Be inspired
- Add value
- Make mistakes
- Say they’re afraid, overwhelmed, sad, or confused
- Have deep trust with their work relationships (clients, team, leadership)
- Feel like they’re part of a bigger story
- Do work that matters and has a soul
- Work to live, not live to work
- Build a name for themselves
- Know what it will take to make more money
- Have a real interest in how the company performs, grows, and invests
- Have flexibility to do other things they care deeply about
- Take their work seriously and perform at a high level
What else would you add to each list?
